Field Trip Opportunities for Schools & Youth Groups

At Reata Veterinary Hospital, we’re passionate about inspiring the next generation of animal care professionals—and that starts early. We offer small group field trip experiences for schools, clubs, and youth programs that want to explore the world of veterinary medicine.

What to Expect

  • Tours typically last 45–60 minutes, depending on the format and group size
  • Content is adjusted based on age, interest level, and goals
  • All students must be respectful of patient areas and follow safety instructions
  • Adult chaperones are required for school-aged groups

We currently offer two types of field trip experiences:
1. Hospital Tour + Q&A:
Students receive a guided tour of our veterinary facilities (small animal and/or equine, based on availability) and engage in a Q&A session with team members from various roles—veterinarians, technicians, and support staff. This option is ideal for general career exploration.
2. Topic-Based Deep Dive: Designed for groups with a specific interest or curriculum goal, this option includes a short presentation or hands-on demo related to a requested topic (e.g., anatomy, preventive care, equine medicine, diagnostics). A tour may be included based on staffing and availability.

Group Size & Eligibility
We can accommodate small groups only due to patient care and facility space. These opportunities are best suited for:

  • Elementary, middle school, or high school clubs
  • 4-H, girl scouts, or FFA
  • Career exploration or STEM-based youth groups
  • Homeschool co-ops

We are not able to host large classes or entire grade levels at this time. If you would like our team to connect with students in the classroom, see how to request a School Outreach Visit below.

How to Schedule a Field Trip:
To request a field trip, please email [email protected] with the following information:

  • Group or school name and age range of students
  • Preferred format (Tour + Q&A or Deep Dive)
  • Desired date(s) or general availability
  • Estimated group size
  • Topic of interest (if requesting a Deep Dive session)

Field trips are available by request only and typically take place on weekday mornings. Availability varies by season and hospital operations, so we recommend reaching out early to secure your spot.

We look forward to hosting your group and helping students connect with the exciting world of veterinary medicine!

School Outreach Visits in Vail

Bringing Veterinary Education to the Classroom

At Reata Veterinary Hospital, we believe that sparking curiosity about animals and veterinary medicine can start long before students visit our hospital. That’s why we’re proud to offer school outreach visits for classrooms and programs within the Vail School District.

What We Offer
Our outreach team, led by one of our Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) and a member of our Community Outreach Team, brings engaging, age-appropriate presentations and hands-on activities directly to your school.

Our school visits are designed to inspire, educate, and connect students with the world of animal health. Presentations can be adjusted to suit your class’s age group, learning goals, or curriculum focus.

Outreach visits may include:

  • Interactive presentations about veterinary careers, pet care, or animal health
  • Hands-on activities such as mock exams or bandaging stuffed animals
  • Demonstrations of basic tools and equipment used in veterinary practice
  • Q&A sessions with a certified veterinary technician
  • Optional take-home materials or coloring sheets for younger students

We can accommodate:

  • Elementary classes (grades K–5)
  • Middle school science, STEM, or career exploration classes
  • After-school clubs or enrichment programs

Availability & Scheduling
Visits are scheduled based on hospital staffing and calendar availability. Most presentations last 25–45 minutes. We recommend reaching out as soon as possible to allow for planning and coordination.
